The Problem With Conservative Politics

Most Canadians are ashamed of their Federal Liberal government. Yet elections after election Canadians’ opt for the Liberals over the Conservatives. It appears that the problem lies not with party headquarters but rather at the local level. Internal conflict and disorganization does not bode well among voters.
The Moncton Conservative Riding Association is a classic example of disorganization and incompetence. The conflict between former Riding president Ian Hamilton and present Riding president Beth Stymiest played itself out in the media. Liberals have internal conflicts as well but they are able to resolve them privately behind closed doors. Nobody that read of the internal strife within the Moncton Conservative Party is apt to vote for them.
The Moncton Conservatives also have the problem of fielding a credible candidate. At the nominating convention, local conservatives had the choice between a bilingual masseuse, and a unilingual social conservative. There was not much of a choice there. In the end the masseuse prevailed. Moncton Conservatives selected a candidate that may be only slightly more cerebral than the character “Bubbles” of the “Trailer Park Boys” television show.
Now it’s not that Charles Doucet is not a nice guy. Nice however, does not cut it in politics. What the Conservatives need is someone that can tie his own sneakers in both official languages. Unfortunately, most Monctonians will be rather sceptical of Doucet’s ability to achieve such a feat. Until the local Conservative Association gets its act together voters have little choice but to spoil their ballots or hold their noses and vote Liberal. This is one “c”onservative minded voter that wishes that the local association would get its’ act together. The local association needs to keep its’ internal battles private and field quality candidates before Monctonians will take them seriously. – Mad Max

Greater Moncton Restaurant Reviews

PIZZA

Norm’s Pizza on Mountain Road in Moncton and Paul Street in Dieppe is absolutely delicious. Treat your taste buds to the splendour of a pizza from Norm’s at a reasonable price.

Vito’s Pizza on Mountain Road in Moncton offers a top quality pizza for a reasonable price. Vito’s has a friendly staff and a pleasant ambiance for dinning in. Unfortunately, if you are handicap then Vito’s is not for you. Even after a number of recent renovations, Vito’s is not handicap accessible. It seems that only able-bodied customers are valued.

DINERS

Hynes Restaurant on Mountain Road has long enjoyed an excellent reputation. Hynes however, is no longer a reputable restaurant. At Hynes you can expect long waits, undersized portions, and slow service. You may be seated for 10 minutes before a waitress even brings you a menu. Hynes is presently surviving on its past reputation that it no longer deserves.

Jean’s Restaurant on St. George Street is absolutely terrible. You would be lucky to have a waitress refill your coffee cup. Jean’s is the bottom of the barrel.

The Bell Inn in Dorchester, NB is about a 40-minute drive from Moncton. It is well worth the drive. The Bell Inn provides a wonderful ambiance and top-quality food along with superb service. The Bell Inn is a seasonal establishment and reservations are usually a good idea.

The Homestead in Riverview, NB offers exceptional food at a reasonable price. Generous portions ensure that you won’t leave hungry. The service is excellent! You can’t go wrong at the Homestead.

Ponderossa is a good place to cure your constipation.

Chinese

The Rice Bowl on Mountain road offers scrumptious meals at reasonable prices.
Egg Roll King on Coverdale road is also a top notch Chinese restaurant.

Monctonians Settle For Inferior Newspaper

The Moncton Times Transcript lacks even a modicum of integrity. Its pages are littered with advertising and irrelevant vintage stories purchased from Associated Press. There is no investigative journalism at all. The local stories are littered with spelling and grammatical mistakes.
Over the summer the front page has carried ludicrous headlines. Only the Times Transcript would carry a story regarding the weather in 1935 on the front page. That David Frum’s National Post editorial would be front-page news in Moncton is absurd. In addition there is always an irrelevant photograph on the front-page of some kid picking his nose or a dog urinating on a fire hydrant.
The Letters to the Editor section is nonsensical. This section usually features poorly written letters debating boorish religious issues. Nothing of substance is ever printed. Cunningham published one letter complaining of that people use “football fields” as a unit of measurement. This really is scrapping the bottom of the barrel.
Moncton has one newspaper that isn’t worth the paper it is printed on. Unfortunately, Monctonians are too complacent to complain to local politicians. As a result Irving is getting away with producing a newspaper written at a grade 3 level. There is no alternative local paper so Monctonians are stuck reading the daily crap Norbert Cunningham produces. Front page news “It Might Rain for The Stones Concert”. I guess Norbert figures that nobody in Moncton is interested in real news.

Riverview’s Backwater Councillors Inept
It seems that Ward 3 Councillor Bob Hyslop is blaming Premier Lord for the lack of funds to pave Riverview streets. According to Hyslop the lack of paving funds is a result of Premier Lord’s refusal to sign a funding agreement with Ottawa.
Perhaps, Hyslop has a point. The inept Riverview Town Council however, is not in a position to criticize any other government. If Hyslop and his band of nebbish sycophants managed our town properly, there might be more funds in the coffers.
On June 13, 2005 Councillor Bill McBeath, Wayne Bennett, and Charlie Broderick put forward a motion to give a one time grant of $3000 to the Greater Moncton Association for Community Living. Was this really the best use of town money? If Broderick, McBeath, and Bennett want to donate to charity why don’t they use their own money instead of the towns? I’ll tell you why, they are incompetent!
On Monday May 9, 2005 Ann Seamens put forth a motion that the Town of Riverview buy 2 tickets to the Right to Life Banquet at a cost of $100. If Ann wants to support the Right to Life society why doesn’t she do it on her own dime?
These councillors should concern themselves with real issues facing our town rather than spending our money on charities. Maybe McBeath, Broderick, Seamans, and Bennett should resign from town council and join a service club. I hear that the Lion’s club is looking for new members.
Too bad town council is preoccupied with giving money away to various charities and shunning potential businesses. Even Nazis did not oppose music but it seems that the Riverview town Council does. That is why the City of Dieppe is today enjoying tax revenues from Chocolate River Music Conservatory instead of Riverview.
An enterprising entrepreneur has been denied her desire to open a gas station in Riverview 8 times. Of course, Riverview’s backwater councilors oppose any form of competition for their buddy that runs the gas station across the street.
Riverview could be a thriving community but for the provincial attitudes of its’ community leaders. Riverview could have Atlantic Grand Prix Wrestling at the Byron Dobson arena but town council opposes people having fun. Riverview is in dire need of leaders that are going to step up to the plate and make our community a great place to live. The deadwood presently on council is just unacceptable!
